Overview
A half-day workshop introducing you to Mass Observation’s research methods and its use for qualitative longitudinal secondary data.
Founded in 1937 Mass Observation continues to generate narrative and visual material from its national panel of volunteers on personal, political and social topics, capturing their experiences, thoughts and feelings. It also generates national diary data through annual events.
In this session we will get hands-on with diaries, survey responses and artistic material. It will help you think about the benefits and challenges of the research methods, who uses the data and the ethics to consider. It will include a behind-the-scenes tour of The Keep, a state-of-the-art archive centre. The Keep is an accessible building. Please bring your own lunch and refreshments.
