Decolonial reflection and Learning trip to Bristol 21st – 24th September 2026
Following on from several successful events focused on deepening our collective understanding and commitment to decoloniality the SCDTP will be running a residential trip to Bristol 21st-24th September 2026.
The trip will offer students the chance to learn more about the city’s historic links with the slave trade and create space for critical reflection on how as individuals and as members of different communities we might contribute towards an ethical process of reparation and reconciliation. The group will reflect together on the lessons that remain and the continued patterns of intersectional exclusion and exploitation that continue to shape our world. Finally, we will address our own positionality and responsibilities as social scientists. How does our research contribute to the promotion of greater social justice and equality?
During the trip participants will be encouraged to read at least one new (for them) decolonial source and take time to draw on it as we move through the programme.
Students selected for the trip will be asked to attend a preparation meeting during which they will be asked to share the text they have decided to read.
If you are an SCDTP student and are interested in coming on the trip, please complete the form below by 26 June 2026:
