Communicating your Research to Targeted Audiences (14 and 15 September)

Topic Format
Press releases

This session will support you in taking your ‘one pager’ and turning it into a press release. It will also include consideration of how to ‘time’ your press release most effectively to audiences in the UK and abroad. This can build on ideas such as those developed within ‘elevator pitches’ that you may have already considered – getting down to core messaging that you wish to communicate most effectively.

Creating graphics

This session will facilitate the creation of graphic communications that represent key messages that you wish to convey – it will include support in visualising your text as image and how to convert your ideas into reality such as through use of graphic design platform Canva

Creating Posters

Many of us have abstracts accepted for presentation of research at conference – this can mean creating a poster to accurately communicate key messages to either academic and/or professional audiences. This session will support ensuring that your poster creations meet the requirements of the conference and capture appropriate information for audiences you want to communicate with.

Ensuring inclusivity/accessibility for the resources we produce

This session will address key considerations to ensure that your communications are inclusive for different audiences and readily accessible to all.
Communicating through TikTok/reels Social media/X/Bluesky/LinkedIn

Social media platforms are increasingly utilised to communicate ‘serious’ topics, including research. This session will consider ways in which to have greatest impact in terms of presentation, timing and response.
Using AI to create your own brand This session will support you in considering how you might utilise AI in the creation of your communications – this could include the development of your own ‘brand’ as a researcher and associated practical and ethical considerations in this.
