Alternative PGR Funding Sources

What: Funding is a perennial challenge for doctoral students in the Social Sciences. This workshop explores the often-overlooked opportunities available through charities, trusts, and foundations, helping students unlock alternative sources of funding for research, travel, conferences, writing-up, and other doctoral costs. The session equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills to identify suitable funding opportunities, find relevant charities and trusts, and prepare strong, competitive applications.

Facilitator: Dr Luke Blaxill, draws on his experience raising over £50,000 during his own doctorate, as well as more than a decade of delivering funding workshops for postgraduate researchers. He is part of GradFunding, publishers of the Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding (www.postgraduate-funding.com), which is subscribed to by nearly 100 UK universities. All participants will receive six months’ free access to the Alternative Guide as part of the session.

Who: The workshop is suitable for all Social Sciences doctoral researchers, regardless of nationality, stage of study, or funding status. Whether you are fully funded and seeking additional support for research, fieldwork, travel or conferences, partially funded and looking to supplement your finances, or self-funded and exploring new funding opportunities, the workshop will provide practical guidance to help you access alternative sources of postgraduate funding.
