🎙️ Speaking of Research, the SCDTP Podcast Series : Episode 5

We’re excited to launch Speaking of Research: the SCDTP podcast, the first official podcast series from the ESRC South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership. This brand-new series highlights the work of our doctoral researchers and explores how their research is making a real impact.

Series One was recorded at our annual conference at Cumberland Lodge in April 2025. In each episode, researchers speak with Catherine McDonald from Research Podcasts about their projects, who might benefit from their work, and the changes they hope to inspire.

🌊 Episode 5 – Now Available. Communicating Pension Policy: Addressing Disadvantages for Women Born in the 1950s with Yifan Ge

In this episode, we speak with Yifan Ge, a doctoral researcher at the University of Southampton, whose research examines the impact of state pension age changes on women born in the 1950s—a group significantly affected by recent UK policy shifts.

Funded by Administrative Data Research UK, Yifan’s project uses quantitative methods and large-scale administrative data to uncover how these reforms have disproportionately disadvantaged certain women. Their work aims to support more equitable compensation strategies and improve the way future pension reforms are communicated to the public.
