SCDTP students were recognised for their research communication, community contribution and collaborative work at the University of Southampton’s 3MT® Grand Final and Doctoral College Awards.

SCDTP student Deborah Timoni was selected as a Grand Final finalist in the University of Southampton Three Minute Thesis competition. Deborah presented her research in just three minutes with the title:

“If Young People Don’t Trust Democracy, Can Technology Fix It?”

Her presentation offered a clear and engaging example of research communication, sharing complex ideas about democracy, trust and technology with a wider audience. Deborah received positive feedback for her impressive performance and for the way she communicated the importance of her research.

The event also included the Doctoral College Awards, where SCDTP students were recognised for their contribution to the wider postgraduate research community.

Congratulations to Clara Girault, who was recognised in the Citizenship and Community category for her contribution to collective academic life at Southampton. Her work includes co-organising activities on emotionally challenging research topics and supporting the wider PGR community.

Congratulations also to Clare Phillips and Clara Girault, who were highly commended for their work in establishing the SCDTP Trauma in Research Interest Group and organising a successful symposium on research and emotionally challenging subjects.

The SCDTP Trauma in Research Interest Group brings together students and colleagues interested in supporting thoughtful, ethical and supportive approaches to research involving trauma or emotionally challenging topics. The group’s work also includes contributions from SCDTP student Sadie Rockliffe and Stuart Lucy.

We are proud to celebrate Deborah, Clara, Clare, Sadie and Stuart, and the important work they are doing to strengthen research communication, community building and peer support across the SCDTP network.

Congratulations to all involved.
