SCDTP-funded PhD researcher Sadie Rockliffe has led the writing of A Coast for All, a national report exploring disabled people’s and people with medical conditions’ experiences of beach access across the UK.
The report was officially launched at the House of Commons on Monday, in collaboration with the Beach Access Project. The event was sponsored by Andy MacNae MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Outdoor Recreation and Access to Nature.
The launch brought together parliamentarians, policymakers, charities, researchers, national organisations, community groups, advocates and people with lived experience from across the UK. Sadie launched the report alongside Will Behenna, founder of the Beach Access Project, and Dr Catherine Kelly.
It received strong engagement from across Parliament, policy and practice, with 45 attendees joining the event. The next phase of the work will focus on action, collaboration and implementation to support more inclusive access to coastal spaces.
Sadie is an ESRC SCDTP-funded PhD researcher whose work explores blue space experiences and wellbeing with people living with sensory difference and diverse embodied ways of knowing.
