Internship Opportunity: Assisting assessment of uptake of smoking cessation services Internship with Hampshire County Council Insight & Engagement Unit

This 3 month full-time internship with Hampshire County Council will be of particular interest to students with high level skills in statistical/data analysis.

The appointed intern will work on assessing the uptake of smoking cessation services. You will assist with statistical analysis on a large dataset of service uptake data and outside factors including social media campaigns, national initiatives and other potentially influential actions. You may also be invited to join work on hot topics as they arise.

The intern will conduct statistical analysis on existing and new data sets to understand what drives service use. Expected techniques include correlation analysis, regression and factor analysis but it could include other techniques that you suggest.

You will work remotely under the supervision of Jonathan Baker of the Insight and Engagement Unit. You will be fully briefed and engage in regular catch ups to ensure progress is on track. All practical support to attend sessions at the County Council will be arranged for you.

The intern will help Hampshire County Council use its revenue in an effective way as well as to understand how their policies and communications affect health outcomes for residents of the county. You will benefit from working within a project-based environment and gaining access to and being able to influence policy decisions made by the County Council. You will receive training/mentorship in how to present information in that context as well as any feedback that will assist your development. You will also be invited to attend any team training or knowledge sharing meetings, gaining work related skills and awareness in the course of the internship while improving the quality of insight on the project. In the longer term the anticipated impact includes improved health outcomes and reduced health inequalities.
