The SCDTP will occasionally make awards of +4 studentships (4 years PhD funding) for students undertaking research of a particularly interdisciplinary nature.
In recognition of the additional training requirements of the research, 4 years funding will be provided whilst undertaking an accredited PhD programme at one of the the partner institutions. Students will be required to complete a tailored programme of 60 ECTS points, identified by the Training Needs Analysis which will be completed shortly after enrolment on the programme.
+4 training will focus on interdisciplinary research. Students will not be formally registered on the Masters in Social Research Methods (MSRM), but will take 50 ECTS of methods and subject modules from the MSRM, identified by their Training Needs Analysis, over a two-year period (pro-rata for PT).
The subject specific modules will be drawn from at least two disciplinary areas. They will take a SCDTP module ‘Conducting Interdisciplinary Research’ in their first year which will be available as an optional module for other students on the MSRM (5 ECTS).
