Research in Practice Networking with LinkedIn: An introduction

What:  

This session is a practical introduction to how you can leverage LinkedIn as a powerful networking tool. With strategies to overcome that awkward transaction feeling when it come to networking, how to communicate effectively & comfortably with organizations and individuals to create a mutually beneficial professional network. 

By the end of this session, you will better understand what networking means to you, examples of networking, how to overcome that feeling of awkwardness and why having a robust network is so important. 

We will look at LinkedIn as a primary tool for networking and you will have the opportunity to ask lots of questions about your own LinkedIn profile or how to set up a LinkedIn profile if you don’t have one. 

Please note that this session is interactive and not suitable for recording.

There is a complimentary following session to this training which goes deeper into elevating your LinkedIn profile, making those connections and building out your network in a manageable way. 

The facilitator:  

This session will be run by Catherine Fitch, SCDTP Research in Practice Administration Lead.  

A little bit about Catherine …  

Catherine has developed effective networking skills throughout her 3 decades career, both in person and using digital tools like LinkedIn. She has experienced the awkwardness of making that first approach to developing strategies to better understand what to say to a new potential contact. Over the years Catherine has mastered the art of networking in a way that feels natural and comfortable.  

Who the training is for:  

All SCDTP 1 (funding started prior to October 2024) and SCDTP 2 students (funding started during or after October 2024).
