Introduction to podcasting for academics

When: Workshops – Thursday 9 & 16 October 2025, 10.00-12.30 online

What: This is a highly practical and interactive workshop held online over two mornings a week apart. Participants will gain the knowledge and hands-on skills required to set up, launch and run a podcast. After an overview and introduction to podcasts, apps, software and hardware, participants will get hands on audio editing practice learning how to put together a podcast episode including recording and mixing in theme music. They will also use a template to develop their ideas for the format and content of their own podcast and get feedback on their ideas from experienced podcasters. In between you will be asked to create a podcast pitch to be submitted in the following session for feedback from our experienced podcast producers.

Preparation: You will need your own laptops/PC and headphones for an editing activity using Audacity, which is freely available on all devices. We will send joining instructions ahead of the session with relevant links to download the software and clips for editing.

Who: This training is facilitated by Research Podcasts who produced our first SCDTP Podcast series with us, see 🎙️ Introducing – Speaking of Research: The SCDTP Podcast Series – South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership

How to join: The are only 8 places available, so we will allocate spaces on a first come basis with a reserve list. The training is costly so if you sign up you must let us know if your circumstances change and you cannot make it so we can reallocate the place. Sign Up Here

SCDTP will also be making a second series of our podcast with opportunities for 10 students to record a podcast for it with Research Podcasts. The theme for the second series is Addressing global challenges and making a difference through research. Read more about this and register your interest here.
