About the Conference
Welcome to the South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership (SCDTP) Final Year Conference 2025/26, our annual celebration of research excellence, collaboration, and the transformative impact of social science. Hosted this year at the historic Queens Hotel, Portsmouth, the conference brings together our final-year doctoral researchers, supervisors, alumni, partners, and wider academic community for a day of discovery, reflection, and shared learning.
This year’s conference spotlights the diverse challenges and opportunities shaping our world, with sessions structured around three breakout room themes:
Human Landscapes: Contexts and Dynamics
Exploring social issues, health, human and animal behaviour, and the forces shaping lived experiences.
Facing Frontiers: Adapting for Change
Research in a rapidly evolving world, including work on neurodiversity, climate change, and global transformation.
Local Lives, Global Impact
Post-COVID challenges, migration, identity, activism, and the power of community-led social change.
Across keynote talks, oral presentations, posters, and interactive sessions, the FYC showcases the breadth, depth, and creativity of SCDTP research. The conference is also an opportunity for networking, interdisciplinary exchange, and celebrating the hard work and achievements of our researchers as they complete their doctoral journeys.
Throughout the day, attendees will have access to dedicated quiet spaces, themed breakout rooms, and on-site wayfinders to support accessibility and comfort. Whether you are presenting, listening, connecting, or exploring, we hope you find inspiration in the vibrant research community that defines the SCDTP.
